The coins in this extraordinarily beautiful set represent a series dating back (in proof) to 1992 when the first fractional size Silver Libertads were produced at the Mexican Mint in Mexico City. The obverse of the Libertad depicts the goddess of victory, which appears at the top of Angel of Independence in Mexico City, which was built in 1910 to honor Mexicos victory against Spain for its independence. This statute was based on Nike, the Greek goddess of victory.
