These lions stand outside many buildings in China symbolically guarding the house and its tenant's with good luck. These statues are traditionally depicted in pairs with both a male and female lion, each representing the traditional qualities of nurture and strength.

The obverse of this two-coin set is unique as it depicts not just the seal of the Republic of Palau but the reverse side of the Chinese guardian lion. Each coin in the set features a guardian lion.
